Suggestions for Selecting a Scanner

It is important that you understand your needs before selecting a scanner.  

• How many pages per day do you estimate will be scanned?
• What kind of documents will be scanned? Sizes, colors, single/duplex?
• Are the scanners compatible with the software application you plan to use?
• What kind of support will you need? Same day, next day, three days?

All scanners have consumables that must be replaced to keep the scanner in good working order.  The scanners also need to be cleaned regularly.  Even if you purchase a maintenance contract for your scanner, which we suggest you do, you are still responsible for the cleaning and consumables.

The daily duty cycle of a scanner is also very important.  You can purchase a fast scanner that is built to scan 10,000 to 15,000 pages per day when you really need a scanner that is built to scan 60,000 pages per day.

DH&IS uses many scanners in house and can provide you with a demonstration (you bring your documents and we scan them) and/or a demonstration unit to try at your office.
